Strengthening Collaborative Relationships: Building Healthy Communities Together

 

There are many people involved in building healthy communities. This one day regional forum will bring together those people: community partners, public health staff, health promotion and recreation professionals, municipal staff, elected officials, and decision-makers to explore ways to work together to build healthy communities. The forum will include sessions on how these various partners can work together and frame the issues they are working on in a way that aligns with the work of municipalities. Co-hosted by HC Link and the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit, the forum will feature Paul Young from HC Link and also profile community examples and stories from across the Northeast region of the province.

 

Purpose of the Regional Forum:

To bring together community partners and municipal representatives to learn and share strategies for building healthy communities 

 

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the regional gathering, participants will:

  • Understand the work, functioning and structure of municipalities
  • Gain a basic understanding of the Planning Act and the various plans (strategic, official, etc.) that guide municipalities and communities
  • Be able to frame health and health equity issues as those of interest/importance to communities and decision-makers
  • Have concrete tools and ideas to begin to strengthen relationships with municipalities and community partners

  • Community stakeholders, public health, health promotion and recreation professionals working in policy development related to healthy eating and physical activity

If you can't join us in person, but would like to get as close to it as possible, this is your option. The panel will be shared online via a special link that will allow you to watch the panel in real time via your computer. We will be using UStream to broadcast the session, and participants can post their questions on the chat window in UStream (please note a login from Facebook is required) or questions can be submitted via Twitter, or via the teleconference line (participants can call in at the beginning of the Q & A to submit their questions).
